THE BRIDGE of Don Brigade, a youth organisation for boys and girls based in The Bridge of Don area of Aberdeen, is seeking support from businesses in the city

The organisation meets weekly and currently have a membership of 90+ young people from Primary one through to Secondary six. They are a completely self funded charity and rely on volunteers to give up their time to run all of our activities.  No volunteer is paid or receives any remuneration for their work with The Bridge of Don Brigade.

Trustee Brian Robb commented:

“Each school year the charity requires between £6,000 and £7,000 in running costs to provide the weekly meetings, activities, outings and equipment that all the young people enjoy and continue to attend each week.  We do charge parents fees for each young person however we do appreciate that not all families can afford to pay for extra activities for their children.  This is something we always combat by having a strong policy in place that no young person should miss out due to financial pressures.

“This does stretch our resources to the max.  We therefore have to apply for grants, donations and support from businesses, organisations and individuals like yourself to makeup any short fall we encounter.  When we receive donations we claim Gift Aid where possible to support us further.

“This summer we intend to take 60+ young people away for 3 days, 2 night residential camp at an outdoor centre run by the Abernethy Trust.  We have received some funding to reduce the cost to each family. However, we hope to be in a position to offer each young person a free place at camp, as we realise the increase in the cost of living is putting huge pressure on so many households.

“Our camp will give the young people life experiences they will not forget, it will improve their mental and physical health, give them space away from home or school pressures and encourage them to take part in more outdoor activities and adventures.”

If you are in a position to make a donation, offer support or help in anyway could you please get in touch with the charity at www.bridgeofdon.org.uk
