UK and leading Scottish law firm Brodies LLP today announces the relocation of its Highlands office to Inverness, following strong client activity across the region.

The Inverness office will be Brodies’ third investment in its premises in 12 months; the firm opened its London office last summer, and moved to its brand new Edinburgh office at Capital Square in early 2022.

Across the business, Brodies also announces the promotion of seven new partners, a legal director and two associates in its latest round of internal promotions. Those include Aberdeen and Highlands-based family lawyers Susie Mountain and Sarah Lilley, who step up to partner level.

An accredited specialist in family law, Susie is the only solicitor advocate in the north east to specialise in family law and works with clients on separation and divorce matters, as well as child residence/contact disputes and international child relocations. She also specialises in working with clients on high value matters.

Highlands-based family lawyer Sarah Lilley joined Brodies in 2020, and has over 14 years’ experience in family and child law, ten of which have been spent working with clients in and around Inverness. She is the only lawyer north of Aberdeen to hold three accreditations from the Law Society of Scotland in child law, family law and family mediation.

Other internal promotions across the firm include Ryan Bowie and Stuart Murray, who become the firm’s newest Glasgow-based partners for land and rural business, and projects. Edinburgh-based tax specialist Bob Langridge and charities and third sector expert Kenneth Pinkerton are promoted to partner within their respected fields, as is English-qualified property disputes and telecommunications specialist Lucie Barnes. Glasgow and Edinburgh-based insurance and risk lawyers Lynn Livesey and Ed Grundy step up to legal director and associate level respectively, and Edinburgh-based renewables specialist Isabella van Green becomes an associate.

Nick Scott, Brodies’ managing partner, said: “These latest investments in our people and our offices are reflective of the objectives that we set ourselves in our 2021 – 2024 strategic plans; to provide our clients with relevant, quality legal advice, and to deliver it in a way that would best facilitate collaboration, conversation and the sharing of knowledge.

“The Highlands and north east continue to see diverse commercial opportunities that drive domestic and inward investment, and private clients seek out our personal and family lawyers for pragmatic support and advice on personal matters that are often complex, sensitive, and cross borders. Our commitment to both these regions has seen us operate in Aberdeen for over a decade and for over four years in the Highlands, and that will continue through investment in developing our locally based teams and our offices.”

He added: ” Our new Inverness premises are modern and bright, providing an excellent space for our colleagues and clients to meet and work with each other in the Highland capital, in the years ahead. Together with our team of lawyers based across the mainland, Skye, Shetland and Orkney, this will enable us to continue supporting clients and their instructions across the length and breadth of the Highlands and Islands, wherever they are located.”
