Building work to create a new state-of-the-art Peterhead Community Campus will start in a matter of weeks after Aberdeenshire Council marked another milestone in its development.
Council leader Stewart Adams confirmed the multi-million pound replacement for Peterhead Academy will open in August 2028.
In his budget speech set out today (Thursday), he revealed spades could hit the ground as early as next month as contractors move in to start work.
The site has now been demolished, with the first stage of development work starting on the playing fields, resulting in a new grass pitch for football and rugby, an all-weather pitch and a synthetic running track.
Developed by Hub North Scotland Ltd in partnership with Robertson Construction Eastern, the new campus will accommodate as many as 1,400 pupils, with the ground floor featuring drama and music studios, a sports hall, dining area and gymnasium.
A dance studio will be located on the first floor, alongside a design skills studio, library and ‘learning plaza’ study area, as well as classrooms.
The second floor will house science labs and more classrooms for subjects including business and computing, and maths.
Aberdeenshire councillor James Adams said: “I’m delighted that building work on the new Peterhead Community Campus is estimated to be only a few weeks away from starting.
“This is a monumental step forward for Peterhead with the creation of an outstanding facility that will also serve the wider community.
In Case You Missed it:
“Peterhead Community Campus will be more than just a place of learning; it will be an incredible hub to learn new skills, socialise, and to play sport in modern surroundings.
“The town desperately needs a new academy, and this state-of-the-art school will benefit generations for years to come, making it one of the best in Scotland.
“This has been a long-standing commitment from Aberdeenshire Council, and despite significant underfunding from the Scottish Government, it is hugely welcome that progress is being made on turning these exciting plans into a reality.”
