The popular foodie fortnight is making a welcome return to the Granite City from Monday, August 7 to Sunday, August 20.

Around 55 restaurants, cafes and bars have signed up to take part in the event, which will see them run special offers for customers to enjoy at several price points.

Organised by Aberdeen Inspired, the city centre BID, Aberdeen Restaurant Week gives locals cafes, restaurants and bars a platform to promote their food and drink offering while driving footfall into the city.

This summer’s line-up includes several newcomers including All Bar One, Shahbazz Tandoori,  The Atrium and Hilton and Aloft at TECA,.

All involved will all be offering special deals throughout the foodie fortnight.

Speaking about taking part in Aberdeen Restaurant Week for the first time, Roy Morrison, general manager of All Bar One, said:

“We have seen the buzz Aberdeen Restaurant Week creates around food and drink in the city and we’re excited to be part of it for the first time. It’s a great initiative and a fantastic chance to try eating and drinking somewhere different.

“We’ll be offering our set menu at an even better price throughout the fortnight. Diners will be able to choose two courses for £15 or three for £20. I’d recommend trying some of our newer dishes which have an Asian twist. My favourite is the Karaage Sticky Chicken which goes really well with a delightfully fruity Spiced Rum Punch.”

Hilton and Aloft at TECA have recently joined Aberdeen Inspired as voluntary levy payers. Both venues will be participating in Aberdeen Restaurant Week for the first time.

Marta Skowron, Cluster Interim General Manager of Hilton and Aloft Aberdeen TECA said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to reintroduce both hotels to the community and remind people that our doors are open to all – not just our hotel guests. Each property offers a very different experience so there is something for everyone. The relaxed vibe of Aloft Aberdeen TECA’s stylish WXYZ offers a bar menu that is a fan favourite with burger aficionados or for a really special treat, the elegant surrounds of our Quarter House Bar and Restaurant in and Hilton Aberdeen TECA serves a seasonal, modern menu which celebrates some of Scotland’s finest local ingredients. We are looking forward to welcoming more of the Aberdeenshire community for breakfast, lunch or dinner.”

Ryan Clark, co-owner, of The Atrium, said: “We are delighted to take part in Aberdeen Restaurant Week for the first time! It gives us the perfect platform to share our vision of providing affordable dining using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.”

Indian restaurant Shahbaaz Tandoori will also be part of Aberdeen Restaurant Week for the first time Anis Ahmed, owner of Shahbaaz Tandoori said: “Aberdeen Restaurant Week is great for restaurants to showcase their USP. The offer brings an additional footfall to local business, helps to raise awareness and creates an excitement and buzz in the city, it’s a great initiative to be part of.

“We are putting together a menu to showcase some of our best-selling dishes such as the Ginger and Cinnamon Prawns and Qandari dish which has been on our menu for 15+ years, it’s sweet with a slight kick of spice in a thick gravy – definitely one to try!”

Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, says the event has proven extremely popular with venues and diners alike.

“January’s restaurant week was extremely successful, and with around 55 venues signed up to take part in August the summer event will be the biggest and best to date! The food and drink scene in Aberdeen is incredibly vibrant and we are delighted to be helping to showcase it. It really is fantastic to see even more venues signing up to take part in this summer’s Aberdeen Restaurant Week.

“We hope that by highlighting the vast array of food and drink that the city has to offer that people will choose to come and try it for themselves and take the opportunity to experience everything else our wonderful city has to offer, whether that’s seeing the latest additions to the city centre street art scene, visiting the art gallery or indulging in some retail therapy.”

The proof of the pudding is in the eating and it seems like this is true for Aberdeen Restaurant Week with many cafes, bars and restaurants signing up again. Returning venues include Six by Nico, Tippling House, The Esslemont, Olive Alexanders, Gidi Grill and Café Andaluz.

Adrian commented: “We are really pleased that as well as having new names on the list for Aberdeen Restaurant Week we also have some old favourites joining in too. The fact that the initiative is proving so popular that venues choose to repeat the experience of taking part is very gratifying. It is fantastic to play a part in something that encourages people to come into the city.”

The range of cuisines that will be on offer during Aberdeen Restaurant Week caters for all tastes. Foodies can choose to sample food from the Caribbean, West Africa, Thailand, Italy, Spain and Scotland to name just a few.

All venues signed up to ARW will offer a unique set dining offer at £10, £15, £20 and £25, ranging across lunch, dinner and afternoon tea. According to Adrian, this adds to the initiative’s appeal.

“The variety of price points definitely makes Aberdeen Restaurant Week an attractive option. As well as delivering a wide variety of cuisines there is usually something to suit every budget with friends and family being able to get together and eat out for as little as just £10 each.” For more information about Aberdeen Restaurant Week, visit https://www.aberdeeninspired.com/festival/restaurant-week
