DOZENS of care leavers have been supported on their journey through higher education as part of Aberdeen City Council’s commitment to digital inclusion.
Enhancing access as way of offering equal opportunities and life experiences is an aim of the Local Outcome Improvement Plan.
The council set aside £25,000 to support a plan developed with youngsters outlining the actions required to address this need.
Aberdeen City Council’s Operational Delivery Committee noted the progress being achieved and that the full implementation of the plan is currently ongoing and being embedded into regular business.
It was highlighted to the Committee that signposting to the range of providers who offer support to access digital devices has been led by the Youth Team, and that 41 care leavers who attended college or university all accessed devices and equipment appropriate to their studies.
Operational Delivery Committee Convener, Councillor Miranda Radley, said: “We welcome the work being undertaken to ensure that care experienced young people are able to access digital support and the devices that will support them in their futures – whether that’s in education or other areas of their lives.”
Council Co-Leader, Councillor Ian Yuill, said: ““It is great to hear of the progress being made to support care experienced young people access digital support.”
“Ensuring that these young people are able to access digital devices and equipment is vital in supporting them to build towards their goals and ambitions.”
