The Christmas Tree Festival will occur on the first three Saturdays of December 4th, 11th, 18th between 1030-1430 in Drums Aisle in the Kirk of St Nicholas and will be run by the volunteers of the Open Space Trust, which is supported by Aberdeen City Council.

Councillor Marie Boulton, culture spokesperson for Aberdeen City Council, said: “I am delighted that the Open Space Trust has brought forward the Christmas Tree Festival in Drums Aisle which will provide a beautiful and peaceful setting for people to visit whilst in the City Centre.

“The Christmas Tree Festival will complement the other Christmas activities, from shopping, dining out, the Panto and of course the Nativity scene which is in place in the kirkyard.”

Arthur Winfield of the Open Space Trust said: “The Open Space Trust are committed to ensuring the future of the Mither Kirk and the Kirk of St Nicholas.

“Bringing the Christmas Tree Festival will allow visitors to the City Centre an opportunity to view the Christmas Trees decorated by several organisations including local schools in the beautiful setting of Drums Aisle, located at the heart of the two buildings.

“This is our first attempt as something like this and hope that we can develop the Christmas Tree Festival into something bigger in future years. We are grateful to Aberdeen Inspired for sponsoring the event and for Councillor Boulton helping us make it happen.”

Adrian Watson Chief Executive of Aberdeen Inspired said: “Aberdeen Inspired is delighted to support the OpenSpace Trust with the Christmas Tree Festival in the Kirk of St Nicholas.

“This is such a special time of year and events of this kind are so important in drawing in the crowds to enjoy this fantastic space.

“It is also heartwarming to see so many other organisations participate in the Christmas Tree Festival, which compliments the wider program of events that are going on in the heart of our city over the Christmas period.”
