Visitors to Aberdeen’s Bon Accord Centre this weekend will have the chance to scale a 7.5-metre climbing wall, while raising funds for a local secondary school.

The structure will be situated at the Schoolhill entrance of the mall and open to the public from Friday (August 8th) to Sunday (August 10th): 10am to 4.00pm on Friday and Saturday, and 11am to 4.00pm on Sunday.

Up to four people will be able to climb the wall at one time, with participants being asked to make a donation before their challenge begins. All proceeds raised will go directly to Northfield Academy.

This marks the second year that Northfield Academy has benefitted from the climbing wall fundraiser.

This year, all monies raised will be used to update and refresh the school’s social areas, creating more welcoming spaces for pupils to relax, connect with friends, and recharge during break and lunchtimes. Plans include adding new seating, tables, and accessories.

Craig McDermott, head teacher at Northfield Academy, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to raise funds that will make a real difference in terms of our young people’s experience at school.

“The money raised will help us create social areas that will improve our pupils’ day-to-day school life.

“Having spaces where they feel comfortable and connected with others can really improve their wellbeing.

“We’d like to thank the team at Bon Accord for its generosity and continued support. We’ll have teachers, parents, current and former pupils volunteering over the weekend, so it’s a real team effort.”

The event forms part of Bon Accord’s ‘Summer in the City’ programme, designed to bring fun, family-friendly activities to the heart of Aberdeen throughout the summer holidays.

Andy Cameron, Bon Accord’s general manager said: “It’s great to be able to support Northfield Academy once again.

“We hope everyone enjoys taking on the challenge of the wall and has a fantastic time, all while raising funds for a worthwhile cause.”
