Energy business CNOOC International has donated £5,000 to Aberdeen Lads Club Community Project (ALCCP) to equip its after-school club room, following a major refurbishment of the charity’s Tillydrone facility.

The funds given will be used to furnish the recently created room with modern tables and chairs, as well as more comfortable seating and floor coverings.

Learning resources, games, books, and art and craft materials will also be purchased as a result of the donation.

The Lads Club after-school club caters for Primary School-aged children from the local community and beyond and provides a safe space where young people can learn, develop and build friendships.

CNOOC also donated a table tennis table to the charity.

Commenting on the donation, Aberdeen Lads Club manager, Angie Johnston, said: “We are so grateful to CNOOC for this incredibly generous donation and really appreciate such fantastic support for our childcare services.

“Our after-school club is a vital part of our offering and contributes hugely to the development and wellbeing of our younger children.

“As well ensuring there’s additional time for them to continue to learn and develop, it also provides a setting where they can improve their social skills, build their confidence and engage in physical activities.”

Karen Lovie, senior executive assistant and member of CNOOC’s UK Community Investment Committee, said: “We are delighted to support Aberdeen Lads Club in their continued efforts to provide young people from across Aberdeen with a safe, and welcoming after-school club.

“A vital service for the local community, working families can be reassured that their children are being cared for, supported, and encouraged to realise their full potential in a fun and educational environment.”

As well as its after-school club, Aberdeen Lads Club also runs two early years nurseries, junior and senior youth clubs, and a number of holiday clubs. It also offers a range of family support initiatives.
