ABERDEEN City Council’s Leader today welcomed a report published by Her Majesty’s Inspectors of Education (HM Inspectors) following a visit to community learning and development (CLD) carried out in November 2021.
During the visit, HM Inspectors met with local authority officers, CLD partners, staff, volunteers, learners, and community representatives.

Inspectors found that CLD and their partners had responded quickly and effectively to support individuals and communities effected by Covid-19.
Digital devices and training on how to use them were provided to community groups and adult learners and that staff maintained communication with these groups through regular online meetings and conversations.
Hubs for vulnerable children were quickly set up and staffed by a range of CLD partners and benefits such as outdoor learning enabled adults and families to improve their physical and mental health.
HM Inspectors recognised that the council has been responding to challenges resulting from Covid-19, which has had a significant impact on the work of CLD partners.
Aberdeen City Council leader Councillor Jenny Laing said: “We are delighted that HM Inspectors were so positive about the Community Learning and Development work we have been doing with partners during the pandemic.
“My sincere thanks goes to all staff, who have worked tirelessly to ensure that community demands have continued to be met despite the considerable challenges we have faced as a result of the Covid-19 situation.”
