Aberdeen City Council has approved a plan to establish a new centre to help deliver music learning to the city’s school pupils.
THE authority’s Education and Children’s Services Committee was provided with a report by officers outlining five model options for future music education with a recommendation for approval of the option would allow for ensembles to run in localities on a weekly basis along with two-weekend courses per year focusing on children across the city playing together.
The committee members approved the recommended option which was devised following engagement with pupils who access Aberdeen City Council’s Music Service on their vision for future learning. Committee Convener, Councillor Martin Greig, said: “I am pleased that we have taken this positive step in reinvigorating our Music Service for school pupils.
“The Music Centre model we have agreed will create more local opportunities for children and young people to make music in ensemble settings and so develop their performance skills while also celebrating their achievements in twice yearly city-wide events.”
Vice convener, Councillor Jessica Mennie, said: “I’m very happy that we have approved a model which is not only the preferred option of teachers in our Music Service but one which we believe will maintain local ensemble playing and build pupil friendships across the city with two intensive weekend courses each year.”
