With the domestic football league season now complete, barring the Premier League playoff final, fans suffering withdrawal symptoms ahead the World Cup Finals have an opportunity to see some of the heroes of the past when the annual Craig Brown Cup returns to the Granite City’s Balmoral Stadium, home of Cove Rangers, early next month.
The charity benefitting financially from the event is the Russell Anderson Foundation (RAF), set up by the former Aberdeen captain and Scotland international in 2012, with the ethos of the Foundation, which operates in the more disadvantaged areas of the Aberdeen, being to empower children to make good decisions and give them a chance to reach their potential.
Already confirmed to be playing in addition to Russell are Colin Hendry, the last man to lead the country to the World Cup Finals, along with ex-Dons Joe Lewis, Mikey Devlin, Niall McGinn, Phil McGuire, Lee Miller, Derek Young, Tomas Cerny, Gavin Rae, Richie Byrne, Darren Mackie, Fraser Fyvie, Chris Maguire and Jamie McAllister and ‘Still Game’s’ Navid (Sanjiv Kohli) with more additions likely.
Scottish singer-songwriter Iona Fyfe will also be performing a pre-match rendition of The Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen and Flower of Scotland and there will be a bouncy castle on site for the youngsters.
Tickets are priced at £10 with youngsters 12 & under free of charge (max of three per adult ticket) while there are a limited number of Main Stand tickets available at £20 each, including a coffee and a pie and are available at https://www.skiddle.com/e/42142031
Kick-off is at 3 pm on Saturday 6 June, with doors open at 1.30 pm.
Tickets are also on sale for a warm up event with a difference to be held on the evening prior to the match.
Lucky attendees at the Friday Warm Up event will have the opportunity to quiz several ex-Dons, including Russell Anderson, Mark Reynolds, Mikey Devlin, Joe Lewis, Richie Byrne and Darren Mackie while Sanjiv Kohli will also be in attendance.
The Friday Warm Up will be held in the hospitality suite at Balmoral and tickets, costing £50 plus booking fee, including a buffet and a drink, can now be purchased at
