Montrose Architecture firm Crawford Architecture has announced the appointment of Kat Reid as its new Commercial Director.

The appointment marks a significant milestone in the practice’s 39-year history as Kat becomes only the second individual outwith the Crawford family to be appointed as a director of the business.

Kat joined Crawford Architecture in 2023 as a Chartered Architect and Principal Designer. Since then, she has played a key role across a diverse portfolio of commercial, industrial and agricultural projects, developing particular expertise in buildings that support businesses, rural enterprises and evolving ways of working.

A graduate of the University of Dundee, Kat completed her Masters in 2019 and became a Chartered Architect in 2022. Her approach centres on close collaboration with clients, translating ideas into practical, well-designed buildings that are both functional and durable, and tailored to real-world use.

In her new role as Commercial Director, Kat will focus on strengthening client relationships, refining project delivery and supporting the continued growth of the practice. Her appointment reflects both her contribution to the business to date and Crawford Architecture’s ongoing commitment to evolving its leadership.

Commenting on her appointment, Kat Reid said: “This is a role I am very proud to take on and reflects both my experience within the business and the direction in which we are moving. I’m grateful for the trust placed in me and for the brilliant team around me who make the challenges worthwhile.

“I look forward to continuing to deliver high-quality, commercially focused design, while working closely with our team and partners to support the ongoing growth of the practice, which looks set to include some exciting developments in the future.

“Looking ahead, I see a very positive future for Crawford Architecture, with clear opportunities to expand our reach, evolve our offering and deliver projects that are both innovative and practical. My focus will be on helping to shape a business that is resilient, forward-thinking and recognised for both its quality and reliability.”

Business Strategist and EOT Director Kevin Crawford – whose dad John founded the company in 1987 – added: “We’ve built a strong reputation over nearly four decades for delivering thoughtful, commercially focused design across a range of sectors. Kat’s appointment signals the next stage in the practice’s development as it continues to grow its offering and expand its reach and we’re really excited about what the future holds.”
