OIL and gas veteran Brian Nixon was one of those recognised at the 2020 Decom North Sea (DNS) Awards yesterday.
The event, which recognises the work being done by companies and individuals in the decommissioning sector was held virtually due to current restrictions on indoor gatherings.

Three new awards were introduced with Mr Nixon sharing the Decom North Sea Emeritus Award with Willem van Es, who passed away earlier this year.
Mr Nixon spent four years as chief executive of DNS, which aims to maximise business opportunities from offshore decommissioning, between 2010 and 2014.
During a 40-year career, he also worked for Wood Group Engineering, Scottish Enterprise and the Oil and Gas Technology Centre before retiring in 2018.
His co-winner, Mr van Es was appointed as Wood Group’s decommissioning manager in 2013, a position he held until his death in January this year.
Commenting on Willem’s contribution to the organisation, Jinda Nelson, DNS Board chair, said: “A committed supporter of Decom North Sea and board member for several years, Willem’s unrivalled decommissioning experience included time as project manager on the North West Hutton and Miller decommissioning projects – both high-profile and pioneering in their approach.
“Generous with his vast knowledge and experience, Willem’s insight proved invaluable to the organisation time and again. We have lost not only an outstanding business colleague, but also a close friend and the organisation is pleased to be able to commemorate his contribution in this way.”
