One of the key drivers of change in the modern-day oil and gas industry will be scrutinised at an interactive session in Aberdeen later this month.
Experienced industry figure Professor Paul De Leeuw will lead a discussion on the topic of digitisation at the latest AFBE-UK Scotland Real Projects event in the city.

The social enterprise organisation encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to consider a career in engineering. And this latest event in its programme of activities puts the focus on the fast-evolving skills requirements for oil and gas industry personnel in the digital age.
The session, entitled the digitisation of oil, gas and everything – the future workplace, takes place in the Sir Ian Wood Building N303 at Robert Gordon University from 6.30pm on Thursday, May 30 (2019).

The event will explore the burgeoning use of digital channels by industry players to engage with stakeholders, optimise costs and improve safety. In particular, it will look at changing skills requirements and the implications of these changes for people already working in – or joining – the sector.
AFBE-UK Scotland chair Dr Ollie Folayan said: “This is such a fundamentally important topic for the industry and everyone who works in it. This event provides a great opportunity for people to learn more about its impact and understand how they remain relevant in the future world of work.”
Prof De Leeuw has worked in the oil and gas industry for over 30 years and is currently the Director of the Oil and Gas Institute at Robert Gordon University. He is also Chairman of the Oil and Gas Innovation Centre, a board member of the Oil and Gas Technology Centre, and a member of the Scottish Government’s Industry Leadership Group for Oil & Gas.
AFBE-UK Scotland promotes diversity and inclusion. It encourages all young people, particularly those of black and minority ethic (BME) origin, to consider a career in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM). The group, which has engaged with thousands of young people across Aberdeen, was established in 2011. Earlier this year, it held its first event for students in Edinburgh.
AFBE-UK Scotland has two other engagement programmes: its schools programme, NextGen, in which industry professionals give up their time to highlight engineering as a career choice to pupils, and Transition, which gives students and recent graduates practical career advice through talks, CV reviews and mock interviews.
