Regional carrier Eastern Airways has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators, placing the airline on the brink of collapse and triggering cancellations across its network.

All Eastern services from Aberdeen to Wick, Teesside and Humberside were cancelled on Monday, 27 October, following the filing. The notice provides a 10-day legal moratorium shielding the company from creditor action while it considers next steps.

Founded in 1997, Eastern operates UK domestic routes including Aberdeen, Humberside, London Gatwick, Newquay, Teesside International and Wick, and has previously flown to Paris. The airline carries around 1.3 million passengers a year.

Recent accounts show mounting financial pressure: a net loss of £19.7m in the 12 months to March 2024, with total debt rising to £25.97m.

Further updates on affected routes and bookings are expected once the company confirms its plans.
