- Aberdeen, Barrhead, Stirling, Clydebank, Bellshill, Cumbernauld, Paisley, and Motherwell are the latest locations in Scotland to receive 5G on the EE network
- EE is now live in 10 cities and towns across Scotland, including Edinburgh and Glasgow which went live in May 2019

EE has switched on 5G coverage in Aberdeen, Barrhead, Stirling, Clydebank, Bellshill, Cumbernauld, Paisley, and Motherwell, allowing more customers in Scotland to receive the latest mobile network technology.

The eight places join more than 30 new towns and cities, since May, across the UK that can now access 5G from EE. It also brings the total number of places across Scotland connected to 5G on the company’s network to 10.
The company, part of BT Group, launched the UK’s first 5G service in May 2019 and has now expanded to 112 towns and cities across the UK. The eight new locations are among the first places in Scotland to receive the next-generation mobile technology, following the first sites going live in the region last year.

Paul Wheelhouse MSP, Scotland’s Connectivity Minister, said:
“The challenges we’ve all faced this year show how digital communications play a crucial role in connecting people, communities, and businesses, and we welcome this announcement of EE’s 5G service in Aberdeen, Stirling, and Paisley.
“The Scottish Government’s 5G Strategy recognises that this technology could become a key driver of economic growth in the years to come and will enable more innovation in sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, and construction.
“We have also established our Scotland 5G Centre to help us facilitate further investment and deploy this technology across the country.”
Network insights from EE show that the top three uses of its 5G network today are video streaming, social networking, and web browsing, with YouTube, Netflix, Facebook, and Instagram taking the top spots as the most used service providers. 5G download throughput* on EE’s 5G network is twice as fast as 4G, giving the best experience yet, whether watching videos, gaming, or catching up with friends and family.
Independent testing by RootMetrics found EE’s 5G network to be the no.1 in the UK, offering 5G in more places than any other UK network.
