Ember, Scotland’s pioneering all-electric intercity coach operator, has announced plans for a new direct bus route connecting Aberdeen and Glasgow, slated for introduction in 2027. This development forms part of the company’s broader strategy to significantly expand its services in the North-East of Scotland.

Andy Mason, Head of Ember’s Scotland operations, confirmed the proposed Aberdeen-Glasgow service is one of the most frequently requested routes by customers:

“One route we’re asked for most often is connecting Aberdeen directly to Glasgow, without having to change in Dundee. The plan for 2027 is very much to introduce that route.”

In anticipation of this and other new services, Ember is currently expanding its depot in the North-East. This expansion includes the installation of additional charging infrastructure, which will facilitate the launch of more routes to areas not yet served by the company.

Aberdeen and the wider Aberdeenshire region are viewed by Ember as crucial areas for future growth. “Aberdeen overall is very much an area we’re looking at positively, with a focus for expansion,” Mason commented. He further noted the company’s ambition to “connect Aberdeen in ways we haven’t yet to date.”

Ember, founded in 2020, has experienced rapid growth in recent years. Mason highlighted this expansion, stating, “Over the last three years, we’ve gone from 13 in city electric coaches to 138.” He added that “many, many more are to come,” indicating sustained investment in its fleet.

The company already operates several routes to and from Aberdeen. Ember commenced operations in the Granite City in October 2024 with a service linking Aberdeen to Edinburgh. More recently, in March 2026, the firm launched a coastal route (E17) between Aberdeen and Perth, which includes a stop in Stonehaven. There is also a service that runs through Braemar, taking a more rural approach to Dundee (E11 route), which Mason described as “fairly new in the scheme of Ember.”

Beyond the confirmed Glasgow link, Ember is actively exploring other potential new connections, with Fraserburgh identified as a location for future service provision.

Mason indicated that “some fairly obvious routes running out of Aberdeen which just aren’t served yet” are on the company’s blueprint for 2027. Ember’s expansion strategy aims to build upon its well-supported existing routes in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, believing there is significant potential for further development.
