Elevator Awards celebrates local business success tonight

29/06/2017

Local business success stories will be celebrated tonight (Thursday 29th June 2017) at the annual Elevator Awards 2017, one of the North-east’s highest profile business awards.

More than 400 guests will attend the sold-out black-tie ceremony at the Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel, which will be hosted by charismatic and well-known writer, TV personality and former MP, Gyles Brandreth.

Mr Brandreth will also be attending a Go Network event this afternoon, which will be attended by a variety of business people from across the area, who will hear him speak on how to engage an audience.

Award applications were received from entrepreneurs and businesses across the North-east for the 10 award categories, which commend business excellence, entrepreneurial behaviour and outstanding community contributions made by top businesses in Aberdeen City and Shire.

Several categories, most notably Most Promising New Business, Emerging Entrepreneur, The Innovation Award and Spirit of Enterprise, saw a significant increase in the number of applicants this year.

Elevator Chief Executive Professor Gary McEwan said that judging this year’s applications had been ‘extremely tough’ given the number of high calibre entries.

“We had 11 applications for the Spirit of Enterprise Award, which is quite exceptional given that it celebrates the achievements of successful business owners who have overcome significant obstacles, and more than 30 applications for the Most Promising New Business (looking at the success of businesses under a year old). It was a very difficult task to choose just 27 finalists out of what was a very competitive field, and we would like to wish everyone luck for tonight’s awards ceremony.”

Royal Bank of Scotland is the principal partner and sponsor of the awards, and Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council are event partners.
