Ember’s E1 to run 24/7 direct to Edinburgh Airport from north-east

Ember’s E1 route will begin serving Edinburgh Airport terminal on an hourly, round-the-clock basis from tomorrow (Wednesday 11 February), following an announcement made on the operator’s Facebook page yesterday (Tuesday 10 February). The all-electric service will operate seven days a week and is designed to give passengers across the north-east and central belt a straightforward link straight to the terminal doors.

Travellers from Aberdeen, Dundee, Forfar, Brechin, Kinross, Rosyth and other towns on the E1 corridor will now be able to reach the airport without needing to transfer onto a tram at Ingliston. Those living in St Madoes, Longforgan, Walnut Grove and The Horn will continue to have a one-change journey, but the interchange point moves from Ingliston to Kinross under the new pattern. Ember has also confirmed that E4 passengers from places such as Fort William, Dunblane and Stirling will continue to be dropped directly at the terminal, preserving existing links for Highlands and central belt users.

Ember highlighted that the enhanced airport link is intended to be factored into holiday planning as a simple way to get to the departure lounge or home again with luggage at the end of a trip. In its Facebook post, the operator said: “A single fare from Aberdeen to the airport is just £17.65, whether you book a month in advance or 10 minutes before departure. From Dundee, the fare is just £9.55 and from Stirling £6.55. Remember, if you have a valid concession card, all Ember services are totally free with no hidden ‘booking fees’.”

Headline fares for the enhanced E1 airport link are being offered as flat rates regardless of when customers book, undercutting many typical rail-plus-tram combinations from Aberdeen to Edinburgh Airport. With real-time tracking, luggage-friendly, zero-emission coaches and direct set-down at the terminal, the operator is pitching the upgraded E1 as a convenient alternative to driving and parking at the airport.
