Energy firm investing in a new Research and Development Centre in Portlethen

An Aberdeen oilfield chemical supplier is investing £500,000 with the creation of a state-of-the-art research and development centre.

Roemex which manufactures and supply speciality oilfield chemicals,  will radically transform a building adjacent to their headquarters on Aberdeen’s Badentoy Crescent. The additional facility will become the firm’s global hub for development of innovative chemical solutions, enabling the business to expand its testing capabilities and services.

The 456 sqm facility will house three high specification laboratories which have been designed to handle specific testing conditions and environmental scenarios.  A dedicated drilling and completions laboratory will enable testing of fluids under simulated downhole conditions, supporting new product development of lubricants and other wellbore treatment chemicals.  An integrity laboratory will provide new on-site sour testing services.  This will allow H2S gas mixtures to be used in the evaluation of corrosion inhibitors and H2S scavengers at elevated temperatures and pressures.

The premises will also accommodate quality control testing areas, conference facilities and additional office space for the firm’s expansion strategy.  Building and construction work began last month and is expected to be completed in December of this year.

George W. Dickson, operations director said: “Our new research and development centre will provide our clients with more analysis, screening and development capability.  This enables Roemex to provide the next level of support to our customers.

“We’re recording increased revenue on last year and we expect our investment in facilities and products to contribute to further growth in 2018 and 2019.”

Roemex recently launched a new Hydro-Test chemical which has been accredited with the industry’s highest environmental rating – CEFAS Gold with no substitution warnings.   The environmentally friendly chemical which is a three-in-one liquid containing biocide, oxygen scavenger and corrosion inhibitor is used for the protection and preservation of subsea and metal structures.

“We’re exceptionally proud to have achieved this rating and reflect best-in-class for product development and environmental profile.  We continually strive to develop products which are environmentally friendly and support the changing landscape of the industry,” commented David Halliday, business development manager.  “Establishing our new research and development centre in Aberdeen demonstrates our commitment to this.”

Roemex is an independent, privately owned business with a 30-year track record in the design, manufacture and supply of speciality oilfield chemicals to oil and gas operators around the world.

Its chemicals are designed for applications from drilling and completions to hydro testing subsea infrastructure, production and decommissioning.  Chemical applications throughout these phases aim to maximise the production of oil and gas and reduce costs with a positive impact on long term productivity. Headquartered in Aberdeen, Scotland and with an office in Dubai, Roemex employ over 40 people and deliver projects on an international scale across EMEA, AsiaPacfic and the Americas.
