ASET International Energy Training Academy marks its 30 years as the world’s first commercial CompEx training centre, setting the standard for competency training in hazardous environments. Established in partnership with North East Scotland College (formerly Aberdeen College) and Shell UK, ASET delivered the inaugural CompEx course in 1994 and has since certified thousands of professionals globally.

The CompEx certification, developed in response to Lord Cullen’s investigation into the Piper Alpha tragedy, initially focused on the energy sector. Since, CompEx has evolved, becoming a required safety standard across multiple high-risk industries, including marine, renewables, construction, and manufacturing. As ASET continues to grow, it now delivers an extensive range of CompEx modules, including Gas and Vapour (Ex01-Ex04), Dust (Ex05-Ex06), Mechanical (Ex11), and Foundation (ExF). These courses equip delegates with critical knowledge and practical skills to operate safely in hazardous environments across both energy and non-energy industries, addressing the growing demand for safety-focused, technically skilled workforces.

“ASET’s commitment to world-class, hands-on training has equipped thousands of industry professionals with the knowledge and skills to work in safety-critical settings, helping them to become CompEx certified. We’re proud to celebrate this milestone with them and will continue working closely with ASET to embed competent people at the heart of energy operations across the globe.”

ASET is proud to support bridging the skills gap across technical industries. By offering cutting-edge training that aligns with both UK and international awarding body standards, ASET ensures that workforces are equipped to meet the challenges of safety critical roles. This commitment to upskilling professionals addresses industry-wide shortages while supporting global safety standards.
