Internationally-respected shipping lawyers will give presentations to more than 50 energy professionals at an Aberdeen event organised by global shipbroker Clarksons Platou.

Paul Dean and Nicholas Kazaz, both based in London with global law firm HFW, will put the focus on SUPPLYTIME 2017, the popular industry contract for offshore support vessels (OSVs) published by BIMCO, the largest of the international shipping associations representing shipowners.

Jonathan Lints, divisional director, subsea at Clarksons Platou’s Aberdeen office, will also give an overview of the subsea vessels market before a day of talks, workshops and networking opportunities at The Marcliffe Hotel & Spa on Thursday, June 20. Subsea contracts and procurement specialists – as well as senior managers – from operators and engineering contractors are attending SUPPLYTIME Seminar 2019.

Jonathan, who joined Clarksons Platou at the start of the year, said: “The seminar will be informative and interactive. It will cover everything from liability and a comparison of SUPPLYTIME 2017 to the previous 2005 version, to the playing out of real-life scenarios in a series of workshops.

“Our clients will benefit from the insight from leading legal specialists, while at the same time having an opportunity to network with fellow industry professionals. Clarksons Platou is delighted to give a platform to this important industry topic.”

A qualified lawyer, Jonathan has been a shipbroker for more than 10 years and specialises in the subsea sector. He is involved in all aspects of shipbroking including chartering, sale and purchase and new builds.

Paul is head of HFW’s 190-lawyer global shipping practice. Nicholas, an associate, specialises in marine and offshore, with a strong focus on international commercial dispute resolution. Both have a track record drafting and negotiating a range of contracts in the shipping and offshore sectors, including BIMCO SUPPLYTIME and other standard contracts, as well as bespoke OSV chartering agreements.

Paul was also a member of the drafting sub-committees for BIMCO’s IMO 2020 clauses and its industry standard decommissioning contract, which is due to be released at the end of this month (June 2019).

Headquartered in Denmark, BIMCO (Baltic and International Maritime Council) is the largest of the international shipping associations representing shipowners. Its membership controls around 65% of the world’s tonnage and it has members in more than 120 countries, including managers, brokers and agents. The invitation-only Clarksons Platou event is fully booked.

A BIMCO member, Clarksons is the world’s leading provider of integrated shipping services, with broking, financial, port and support and research capabilities. The 167-year-old company has offices in 50 countries, with the Aberdeen operation based at City Wharf, Shiprow.
