Aberdeen business people will benefit from a unique insight into protecting their organisations against cyber-attacks courtesy of a reformed international hacker.

Mike Jones, also known as ‘sting3r’, will share his insider knowledge with more than 50 guests, academics and students during an exclusive event organised by the Robert Gordon University (RGU) and The TechForce.

A former US military intelligence expert and Iraq War veteran, Mr Jones is a self-confessed one-time member of the infamous hacking group, Anonymous.

Utilising this experience, Mike has performed numerous security tests for the US Department of Defense, major financial institutions, casinos and other large organisations.

Based in Houston, he has developed ‘exploit’ techniques to help industries protect themselves through greater understanding of the specific threats they face.

The free-to-attend event ‘Inside the mind of a hacker’ is being held at the Sir Ian Wood Building, Garthdee Road on Wednesday, November 7 (6:00-8:30pm). Limited tickets for the event are available from https://bit.ly/2EQonOs

Event organiser The TechForce provides cyber security services and security awareness training for medium-to-large companies and managed IT services for high-growth businesses.

The company’s managing director, Jai Aenugu, commented: “We’re thrilled to have someone of Mike’s calibre speak at this event and feel extremely grateful that he has agreed to take time out of his busy schedule to be with us in Aberdeen.

“I’m certain that his backstory and practical expertise will serve as tremendous food for thought for everyone in attendance and help raise awareness around the increasingly important issue of cyber security.”

Dr Hatem Ahriz, course leader for MSc Cyber Security at RGU, added: “It promises to be a fascinating evening for all the guests and students and a great opportunity to learn from someone who is uniquely qualified to speak from both sides of the cyber security divide.”
