AUDIENCES will have the chance to virtually explore extraordinary wildlife, underwater species and exotic animals this week, as part of TechFest’s digital festival of STEM 2021.
Famous for the incredible wildlife, Dr Michael Leach will take adults and youngsters back in time to the Galapagos Islands in 1835 for his Enchanted Islands workshop. Known as the place where Charles Darwin developed life changing discoveries on evolution, participants can learn all about these iconic islands and the species that reside there.

Suitable for all ages, Enchanted Islands will take place online on November 10 at 6.30pm.
Audiences can then dive deep into the underwater world with Marine Life of the Moray Firth hosted by Macduff Marine Aquarium on November 11 at 1.30pm. The marine masters will submerge their virtual viewers with knowledge on what can be found beneath the steely blue waters of the Moray Firth, showing off the amazing native species and offering an up-close look at the critters you can expect to find along the coastline.
Presenting for a second time this year, The Critter Keeper and his Critter Crew are back with their Exotic Animals workshop on November 13 at 10.30am. Fun for the whole family, viewers can learn fun and exciting facts about amazing animals and see live demonstrations.
Booking is now open for the events, which form part of TechFest’s 25 days of Live digital public programme.
Managing director at TechFest, Sarah Chew said: “From the Galapagos Islands to the Moray Firth, these presentations offer both a historic and local educational experience. Taking part in events like these offers the audience a rare opportunity to learn more about unique and exciting habitats from the comfort of their own home.
“This is the second year we have made our festival virtual, and we’re excited about our upcoming programme that opens up a world of knowledge across many subjects. Offering something for everyone, we hope this year’s selection inspires people to learn more about their favourite subjects and experience it with family and friends.”
TechFest’s festival of STEM is supported by joint principal sponsors, bp and Shell, with the public programme also being sponsored by Equinor.
With an exciting and eclectic mix of more than 20 events taking place over a three-week period, the festival programme will include both live and on demand events delivered via Zoom, Facebook and through interactive activities.
The festival will also celebrate Scottish Careers Week in partnership with Skills Development Scotland from November 15 – 19 with the opportunity for young people, students, employers, teachers and parents to discover more about Scotland’s career service and the support available to get on the career ladder.
The highly popular family days will also return on demand, jam packed with fun and STEM-inspired activities which the whole family can enjoy at home at a time that suits them.
