Clan Cancer Support is the only local charity to provide dedicated support services for adults, young people and children dealing with a cancer diagnosis – either for themselves or a loved one.

The charity has experienced practitioners available within a specialised space for young people at Clan House in Aberdeen, and at Clan centres in Inverurie, Banchory, Crimmond, Elgin, Orkney and Shetland.

The team offers individual and group sessions to nurture family communication, reduce isolation and build resilience  with practitioners regularly making home visits and working in partnership with schools.

Kay Johnston, head of cancer support services at Clan, said: “A cancer diagnosis affects everyone in the family, regardless of their age, and it can be a particularly overwhelming time for children.”

“Clan offers a dedicated professional Children and Families Service to help young people navigate their situation and have a safe space to talk openly, allowing a children and families practitioner to equip them with various tools and techniques to support them at all stages of a cancer journey and beyond.”

“Our event in August is an opportunity for families affected by cancer to meet our team, find out about the work we do and meet others in their position. Our friendly team will be on hand throughout the day to welcome people to Clan House and provide advice and information as well as fun activities.”

Clan’s family day will include family fitness sessions, interactive nutrition activities, crafting workshops, a magic show by Alan Cadabra and a storytelling workshop delivered by Once Upon a Tune.

Catering will be provided and limited parking will be available at Clan House. To register to attend, please contact Clan’s Children and Families team by emailing [email protected] or calling 01224 647000 by Monday, August 15.
