DENIS Law Legacy Trust, alongside Streetsport staff, volunteers and community helpers, hosted a successful family fun day at Cruyff Court Neale Cooper last week (Thursday 11 August).
The event was run as part of the Heroes of the Cruyff Court initiative which empowers young people to become role models and leaders in their own community.

Youngsters from the Torry area – Kelsey, Marcus, Alaina and Lily – took on the task of planning the day on their Cruyff Court and became their own community’s local Heroes. They worked alongside Findlay Harkins, Streetsport Volunteer Coordinator who is also trained as a Cruyff Foundation Coach, and Streetsport Session Lead Aimee Culley.
Meeting once every six weeks, the team organised everything from catering and activities to advertising and event themes.
They also arranged to house a stall which enabled money to be raised for the Kacey Seivwright Fund, created in memory of Kacey to distribute defibrillators to local schools and kids clubs.
In total over £1,800 was raised for it as hundreds of people came out to enjoy the baking sunshine and fun, family environment.
In keeping with all Streetsport operations, entrance and all activities were free of charge for visitors, including inflatable football darts, a bouncy castle, and a fun run.
Aramark provided BBQ burgers while there was also an ice-cream van as well as Pick’n’Mix, alongside a tombola, at the fundraising stall.
Findlay said: “The young people involved were all brilliant at organising the fun day and can be really proud of their efforts.”
“Cruyff Court Neale Cooper has been a fantastic addition to the Torry area, helping the Streetsport programme, volunteers and participants grow together”.
Denis Law Legacy Trust has a fruitful partnership with the Johan Cruyff Foundation having worked together, alongside Aberdeen City Council, to build both Cruyff Court Denis Law and Cruyff Court Neale Cooper.
Further news about Aberdeen’s third Cruyff Court in the Tillydrone area of the city, and only Scotland’s fourth, is due out soon.
