Family-run North East financial planners raise a massive £26,000 for charity

Vee and George Thom

VT Wealth, which is run by Vee Thom and her husband George, raised the sum for Friends of ANCHOR by hosting a glittering ball at Aberdeen’s Chester Hotel, featuring music from the renowned Celtic Brothers who were performing in Scotland for the first time.

They were joined on the bill by Irish singer/songwriter and Tenerife resident Fergal Flaherty, who brought his famed social media “lockdown sessions” to life with a toe-tapping set which delighted guests.

Boosting the total raised on the night were an auction and raffle which was made possible thanks to the generosity of donations from VT Wealth’s friends, clients and business associates.

Commenting on the success of the evening, Vee Thom said: “We are humbled by the support we have received in our efforts to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.

“We have been so well supported by people across the North East in establishing and growing our business, and we were keen to give something back to a cause which is very close to our hearts.

“One of our founding principles was to change the perception of the word ‘wealth’ and the success of this event is a clear indication of the richness of support which exists among our family of clients and business associates for the work of Friends of ANCHOR.”

Erica Banks, communications lead at Friends of ANCHOR, said: “George and Vee laid on an excellent evening of hospitality and entertainment for their first ever ball. It was a spectacular affair and we’re incredibly grateful they chose to direct the support shown on the night to Friends of ANCHOR.

“It was quite something to witness the generosity in the room on the evening, with a tremendous sum raised through the auction and various other initiatives. Every penny will go to our ANCHORED Together appeal to raise £2m for The ANCHOR Centre, which will open in 2023 and provide care for 65,000 people a year. It’s really special to know this fundraising will have a lasting impact on North East cancer and haematology care.”

Friends of ANCHOR aim to provide the best treatment, care and person-centred wellbeing services possible to oncology and haematology patients in the North East.  Uniquely, every single penny donated to the organised goes directly to the cause with Balmoral Group fully covering operating costs.  Friends of ANCHOR is currently running their largest campaign to date – “ANCHORED Together” aims to raise £2 million to support the state-of-the-art ANCHOR Centre which is due to open next year and will be the first of its kind in Scotland.
