Oldmeldrum-based children’s charity, Kayleigh’s Wee Stars, hosted their first Christmas event this weekend, with over 90 participants partaking in the ‘Turkey Trot’, despite the torrential rain and raising just over £3600 for the charity.
The 7.8km trot saw runners embarking on a countryside route and finishing up at the Oldmeldrum Legion for some refreshments and festive activities, including a Christmas singalong. Participants in the Christmas-themed fun run wore festive attire to embrace the holiday spirit, adding a joyful touch to the event.
KWS was set up in 2012 by Jonathan and Anna Cordiner after tragically losing their 2-year-old daughter Kayleigh to a terminal brain tumour. When Kayleigh was diagnosed in December 2011, her parents took time off work, vowing to make her last few months as special and memorable as possible. They set up the charity to help relieve the financial pressure on other families with a terminally ill child.
Anna Cordiner, Kayleigh’s mum and KWS Charity Manager, said, “It was amazing to have so many people come out to support us in our first ‘Turkey Trot’. We have raised a great amount, which will help support so many people through a tough time in their lives. A massive thank you to everyone who helped to make the day a success and round off a fantastic year!”
