Davidson Chalmers Stewart and its client Uplift UK has welcomed the decision of the Court of Session to uphold a legal challenge against a proposed North Sea oil and gas development.
The Davidson Chalmers Stewart team, which is comprised of the firm’s key dispute resolution and environmental solicitors, praised the Court’s decision to reduce the relevant consents given by the UK Government to permit the development of the Rosebank oil field.
The oil and gas developers were given consent for Rosebank by the previous UK Government despite warnings from scientific experts, conservation organisations, and opposition from hundreds of climate NGOs and grassroots groups. This includes Uplift, whose mission is to support efforts to transition away from oil and gas production in the UK.

“We could not be happier with this outcome, which is due in part to the tireless efforts of our team at Davidson Chalmers Stewart and our appointed Counsel. This successful Judicial Review has highlighted the Government’s failure towards our country’s Net Zero efforts. This is an important decision in the fight against climate change and we applaud the determination of Uplift towards creating a greener UK.”
