The Period Place is organising a 4-K community walk in Aberdeen on Saturday 31 May 2025 to advocate awareness and better care for menstrual health issues. Participants will talk to end period shame and stigma and will walk to raise funds to empower girls in need with first period kits. Compassionate and knowledgeable doctors will answer walkers’ questions. Thanks to the support of the Robertson Trust and Tesco, this event is free to attend. ‘Walk to give her a voice’ is planned in collaboration with the NHS Grampian Wellbeing festival.

ABERDEEN COMMUNITY PERIOD WALK
The Period Place is a charity championing positive menstrual health from puberty to menopause. They tackle period poverty and provide education and awareness of specific period-related health and general wellbeing. Founder and director Florence Igboayaka says: ‘Our ‘Walk to give her a voice’ event is not just a walk, it is a profound declaration of solidarity and empathy for anyone grappling with period-related challenges.’ She adds: ‘We’re sowing seeds of hope and self-care, raising vital funds to offer education and resources to young girls, ensuring no one navigates their period journey alone.’ Heavy or irregular periods, infertility, PCOS, fibroids, endometriosis and everything in between are not uncommon and deserve more attention. These aren’t just clinical labels; they’re arduous journeys fraught with uncertainty, frustration, and often, a deafening silence.

Participants will gather at the Esplanade, Aberdeen Beach on Saturday 31st May 2025 at 10:30am and will finish their walk by 12:30pm. A similar walk will take place in schools across Aberdeenshire on May 28 to mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day.

JCI Aberdeen, who proudly supported The Period Place in 2024, will once again be joining the walk this May. As an organisation committed to developing young leaders and creating a positive impact in the community, a spokesperson for JCI Aberdeen said they are “honoured to stand alongside The Period Place to raise awareness and challenge stigma around menstrual health.”
