The James Hutton Institute has unveiled its new £8.2 million Hutton Hub at Craigiebuckler, designed to drive collaboration on Scotland’s journey to net zero.

Funded by the Scottish Government’s Just Transition Fund, the Macaulay Development Trust and the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, the facility features cutting-edge digital and immersive technology for research, business and education.

Highlights include a 360-degree immersive suite, podcasting and video studios, VR and AR headsets, interactive touch tables, and two lecture theatres for conferences and events.

Chief executive Colin Campbell said the space was created to “help businesses and communities work together to tackle the most pressing challenges of climate and nature.”

The project, five years in the making, replaces outdated labs and offices with a modern, sustainable environment. A café and public exhibition area will open soon, allowing visitors to explore the Institute’s research and innovation in land, water and environmental science.
