The hunt is on for a new social media food star to join Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks’ ambassador team – and it has sparked a rush from people wanting a seat at the table with more than 450 applications already.

“Our original social media post with a callout for a new ambassador had 17,000 views in just a few days. This shows the huge appetite for the Foodie Fortnight,” said Shona Byrne, project manager with Aberdeen Inspired who stage Aberdeen Restaurant Week.

“If you love taking pictures or videos of your food and promoting and supporting local restaurants then you might just be the perfect person for the job.”

Shona said there is still to tuck in to the tasty post of ambassador with Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks, running from Monday, February 24 to Sunday, March 9.

Entries to join the existing 20 ARW ambassadors – who come from a mix of lifestyle, hair and beauty social media accounts – are open until noon on Monday, February 10.

Shona, who runs the Foodie Fortnight, said: “The one thing ambassadors have in common is they are positive advocates for the city and what it has to offer.  They have great engagement and social media presence, particularly on Instagram and Tik Tok.”

“We love our ambassador team and all that they do for the businesses in the city.  They have helped to make Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks the huge success it has become since its inception in 2018.”

Shona said Aberdeen Inspired has gradually added to the team over the past few years but this time round she came up with the idea of going to the public to nominate themselves or someone they’d like to see in the mix.

“We’d love to find an account or two perhaps that adds something a bit different,” she said.  “Perhaps we will temp grandparents and grandchildren to team up, or friends might get together to form a foodie review tag team. Visitors to Aberdeen might even be interested to give their take on the city and its food scene.

“Whatever the reasons, we are excited to search for a new food star who is keen to share their view on our cities incredible hospitality scene.”

But what’s in it for budding ambassadors? Well, they get to enjoy:

  • A preview of what’s happening during Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks.
  • A meal and drinks for two at a participating venue
  • A Dip and Dough session at Dough & Co for them plus three friends
  • Second Home Cafe’s yoga experience
  • Special invites and a chance to connect with other ambassadors.

With over 70 venues taking part in this edition of Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks, there’s plenty of eating to be done.

I love discovering and sharing amazing local spots, and this opportunity is a fantastic way for food lovers to connect, support independent businesses, and bring the city’s vibrant hospitality scene to life. I’ve put my application in, and if you’re passionate about great food and love creating content like I am, this is your chance to be part of something really special!”
