Mrs Benzie, who is a qualified accountant with 20 years in senior leadership, has taken on the role on a part-time basis and will also continue as chief executive of local charity, Citymoves Dance Agency.

She said: “The two roles work very well together as both ASV and Citymoves are charities working closely with our local communities to promote health and wellbeing.

“ASV is a superb, world-class facility which has been a fantastic addition to the city and I am very much looking forward to bring onboard my skills for delivering high level projects and working with large teams.  Technology is by far the biggest challenge and we need to make sure that we stay ahead and give our members the best service whilst not losing that community feel.”

Mrs Benzie joined Aberdeen International Airport in 2008 and during her time in the role, led the runway extension project before being appointed as managing director until stepping down in summer 2018.

Established in 2009, Aberdeen Sports Village is the largest sporting facility in the North-east and is recognised as one of Scotland’s leading sports and fitness venues. A partnership between the University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen City Council and SportScotland, it has more than 7,500 members, welcomes around one million visitors every year, and employs more than 250 members of staff.

Duncan Sinclair, ASV chief executive, said: “Carol has an exceptional background and strong track record of delivering large-scale and successful projects, so her expertise is a welcome addition to the team at ASV.

“We are forever striving to bring fresh changes to the village for the greater good of our community and since launching we have already seen the development of the aquatics centre and made large investments in continually upgrading the facilities.

“Carol will bring a fresh perspective at a pivotal time when we are renovating our indoor pitches and beginning to look ahead at the next phase in our development.

“We continue to attract large scale sporting events and thousands of visitors to the city to experience our top-class facility and Carol’s network and commercial knowledge will also support future potential events on a corporate level.”

ASV, boasts a state-of-the-art gym, sports halls, indoor and outdoor athletics facilities, a range of exercise classes and indoor football pitches, as well as the Aquatics Centre, which includes an Olympic standard 50m pool and diving pool.
