Also known as a cloud, virtual, remote, commissary and ghost kitchen, unlike a traditional restaurant, a dark kitchen is a professional kitchen that only produces food for delivery.

It contains the kitchen equipment and facilities needed to prepare food but has no dining area for customers.

Iftikar Mian, director at family-owned Aberdeen-based property investment and development company West Coast Estates, said: “Given the problems that pubs and restaurants have confronted as a result of Covid-19 restrictions, we think these premises would be ideal as a ‘dark kitchen’ to help cater for the surge in demand for home food deliveries.

“Many chefs have been made redundant, unfortunately, but these premises represent a tremendous opportunity for an operator to walk in and start-up a home delivery business. And operators could be up and running for the festive season.

“We consider dark kitchens enabling home delivery operations as the next big frontier in the food service market.”

The property is being marketed by Shepherd Chartered Surveyors.
