LOCAL charity the Mamacita Foundation is reaching out to the compassionate people of the North East, calling for urgent donations to support their local foodbank and seeking volunteer drivers to assist with vital deliveries on Sundays.

The Mamacita Foundation, whose slogan is ‘Never Feel Alone’, is located at Hilton Convention Centre, 13 Smithfield Road. The charity is dedicated to alleviating food poverty and supporting families in need across the North East of Scotland, including migrants, asylum seekers, members of Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups and those experiencing extreme hardship. It operates drop-in sessions every Tuesday evening from 5:30pm at its Hilton Centre to enable access to its foodbank and support activities. It also offers a range of support services including employability skills training and a CV clinic, basic supplies provision, emergency aid and social events to support mental health.

As the cost of living continues to rise, many families in our community face unprecedented challenges. The Mamacita Foundation, a beacon of hope and support, has tirelessly worked to provide essential food supplies to those in need. However, the demand is growing, and the charity urgently needs the support of the local community to continue its mission.

“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity that the North East community has shown in the past,” says Vivian Draghici, Founder of The Mamacita Foundation. “Now, more than ever, we need your support to ensure no family goes hungry. Your donations can make a significant difference in the lives of those struggling to put food on the table. We can only currently run our food bank on a Tuesday evening but there is a vital need for this to also be available every Friday, which currently we cannot support due to not having enough food donations.”

The Mamacita Foundation is specifically calling for donations of non-perishable food items such as canned goods, pasta, rice, and cereals. These items can be dropped off at Hilton Convention Centre, 13 Smithfield Road on Tuesdays from 9am – 7pm and Thursdays from 10am – 12pm. Monetary donations are also welcome and can be made through the foundation’s website at https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=ZRU4UXTR54QQ2.

In addition to food donations, the foundation is seeking volunteer drivers who can dedicate a maximum of one hour on Sundays to deliver food parcels to families unable to access the foodbank directly. This service is crucial for reaching the most vulnerable members of the community including the elderly and those with mobility issues.

“Volunteering as a driver is a wonderful way to give back to the community and directly impact the lives of those in need,” Vivian added. “Your time and effort can bring hope and relief to families during these challenging times. We ask for just one hour of your time on a Sunday. If you have access to a vehicle and can assist us with food bank drop-offs, we would love to hear from you.”

For those interested in volunteering, please contact The Mamacita Foundation via email at [email protected]. The foundation provides full training and support to all volunteers.
