The Mamacita Foundation, a leading Aberdeen charity dedicated to supporting vulnerable communities, was recently awarded a £5,000 grant from the Trades Widows’ Fund. This timely funding has already brought significant relief, enabling the foundation to deliver critical winter support to local families during a challenging season marked by freezing temperatures.

Based at the Hilton Convention Centre, 13 Smithfield Road, the Mamacita Foundation works tirelessly to combat poverty and offer essential resources to migrants, asylum seekers, BAME groups, and individuals facing hardship. The £5,000 grant has supported three key initiatives this winter:

  1. Christmas Food & Shopping Vouchers – Providing struggling families with the means to purchase essentials and enjoy warm, nutritious meals during the festive season.
  2. Emergency Food Supplies – Delivering urgently needed food parcels to households facing food insecurity.
  3. Volunteer Support – Covering volunteer drivers’ expenses for delivering parcels and collecting from stores during Christmas and New Year.

The impact of these initiatives has been profound, particularly for families who have faced severe challenges during the harsh winter weather. Reflecting on the success, Vivian Dragichi, Founder of the Mamacita Foundation, expressed her heartfelt appreciation:

This generous grant from the Trades Widows’ Fund has been transformative and the funding went a long way in supporting the community during the festive season and will continue to do so throughout the winter months. We were able to purchase ambient food items for Christmas food parcels and buy food vouchers aligned with Aldi’s festive meal offers to meet the high demand we were facing.

We are deeply thankful for the support, which allows us to extend the warmth and care of our community to those who need it most.”

The Mamacita Foundation continues to run its weekly food bank and support initiatives, striving to meet the increasing needs of Aberdeen’s most vulnerable residents. This grant has further empowered the charity to extend its reach, ensuring that everyone can experience the joy and dignity of a warm meal, safe clothing, and community care.
