FreshMex secures first permanent restaurant unit

FreshMex, the Tex-Mex street-food outfit which began life trading as a pop-up food stall at local farmers markets and fayres in 2015, has signed a five year lease on its first permanent standalone unit where it plans to open a burrito bar.

The 1,500 sq ft unit which comprises kitchen and dining space unit is at 55 Schoolhill in Aberdeen with the deal being negotiated by CBRE  in an off market deal.

Iain Landsman, associate director of CBRE Aberdeen, said: “It’s fantastic to see a locally-grown company like FreshMex starting and expanding throughout the downturn in the local economy. With some multi-national chains struggling and announcing unit closures, FreshMex’s success is testament to the quality of its food & offering and it’s great to see the people of Aberdeen embracing its values of using fresh produce matched with quality service. We’re very proud to have secured the perfect site in a busy central location for the first standalone FreshMex outlet, and we look forward to seeing the company continue to thrive.”

Founders Robbie Moult and Calum Wright are aiming to have the burrito restaurant open in June this year. In addition to their new venture, they will continue operating FreshMex from the Adams and Hawthorn Sports Bar on Holburn Street, where it has been a resident in the kitchen since July 2016.

Robbie Moult, co-owner of FreshMex, said: “The past three years have seen FreshMex go from strength to strength and we’re hugely excited to be opening our first standalone restaurant this summer. Since launching, we’ve had amazing support from the people of Aberdeen & Aberdeenshire – customers, fellow businesses, suppliers, our friends & family, our wonderful growing team – and we cannot wait to open our first FreshMex unit in our local city. We’ve received expert guidance recently from CBRE in securing the ideal premises for our latest venture in the heart of Schoolhill. The new restaurant will enable us to bring our award-winning food to even more people and we look forward to welcoming customers, both loyal and new, in June.

“We are a growing, ambitious company, and with continued support, we aspire to take the unique FreshMex offering beyond Aberdeen.”

CBRE represented the tenant FreshMex whilst the landlord Crandale Limited was unrepresented.
