PEOPLE from across the North-east are being urged to pound Aberdeen’s streets to raise money for a leading cancer support charity.

Registration is now open for the fifth Maggie’s Aberdeen Culture Crawl, which takes place on Friday, June 24. And organisers are hoping Granite City walkers add to the £300,000 they have raised since the inaugural event in 2017, helping make it one of the most successful in the UK.

The event, which is being sponsored by Neptune Energy, involves a 10k walk around the city centre, with stop-offs at venues along the way for food, fun and entertainment. More than 300 people took part in last year’s event, which included visits to a Tai Chi class in Westburn Park, Aberdeen Art Gallery, OGV Taproom and a guided Nuart talk at Union Plaza.

And with this year’s walk taking place without limited numbers for the first time since 2019, fundraisers can expect some exciting visits, with the full itinerary being kept under wraps until the night itself.

Maggie’s Aberdeen Centre Fundraising Manager Richard Stewart said: “Every year our Culture Crawl demonstrates just how much our supporters care about Maggie’s Aberdeen. They give so much back to the event that it inspires us to work hard to add new venues, entertainment and surprises each year to create as much fun as possible.

“It’s a lot of fun planning the event – really, it’s like 10 mini events on one night, all linked by a sponsored walk with lots of surprises along the way. On the night, the atmosphere is incredible and there is a real buzz from start to finish.

“The fact that so many people come back year after year proves that we are doing something right. We cannot wait to welcome walkers old and new to the event in a few weeks’ time.

“We appreciate this is a tough time for everyone financially, and we are not immune to that as the cost of caring is rising all the time. Events like Culture Crawl are of huge importance to us, and we are extremely grateful to everyone that takes part, as well as every penny that is donated.”

Neptune Energy’s UK Country Director Alan Muirhead said: “We are proud to support Maggie’s Aberdeen and are already looking forward to what will most certainly be a very special night.”

“The work the charity does in helping people affected by cancer, as well as their families, before, during and after treatment is crucial, and we are very pleased to be able to help them provide that care.”
