AN INDEPENDENT gentleman’s outfitter is celebrating being crowned the winner of the ‘Fashion Award of The Year’ at the Evening Express Society Awards Ceremony.

The glittering event, which took place last month at the Sandman Signature Hotel in the city centre saw Gibbs Menswear win the prestigious award. Stiff competition included leading retailers Indi & Will, Tiger Lily Boutique and retail giants, John Lewis & Partners.

Barry Gibb, owner of the Inverurie outfitter’s, said: “We are delighted to have won the Society Award for Fashion Retailer in the opening year.

“Success is only made possible with the help of our loyal and dedicated staff, as well as the ongoing support from our customers. For which we are very grateful for.”

The family-owned business, which has been established in Inverurie’s, High Street, for the past 37 years offers a range of contemporary but classic menswear from Meyer, Eterna, Walker Slater and their own exclusive brand Mitchell Scott.

“It is a huge honour for my family and I to win such a prestigious award, carried on Barry.

“It is especially challenging in the current climate for any independent retail business, so to be up against the calibre of other shop, boutique and department store as John Lewis has been a truly humbling experience for us.

“It is superb to be recognised as the best among our peers although we never take anything for granted, nor do we rest on our laurels.

“This award, which has pride of place on display in the shop, has come at a good time for us as we look forward to unveiling big plans in the not too distant future.”

The latest award takes pride and place next to another award Barry won – when he won the ‘Best Independent Retailer Award’ at 2016 Scotland’s Business Awards in Edinburgh.

The Society award ceremony acknowledged Gibbs Menswear Outfitter’s has led the way in providing not only high end, quality clothing but also a superb retail experience, too.
