All Aboard! Gilbert and Sullivan Society seeks new crewmates to celebrate its 50th anniversary!
Aberdeen’s Gilbert and Sullivan Society is seeking new cast members to join their crew for their 50th anniversary production of HMS Pinafore.
“This group has been bringing the music of Gilbert and Sullivan to Aberdeen since 1976 and To celebrate this milestone, we’re pleased to announce we’ll be staging one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most well known works!” said Jasmin Gray, Chairman of the society.
The society will be holding an open rehearsal on Sunday the 21st September at the Aberdeen Academy of Dance on Charlotte Street. Starting at 6:30pm, the rehearsal will allow attendants to learn more about us and sing some of the music from the show.
“The introductory session is perfect for anyone who might be curious about joining before having to get up and audition,” said Jasmin Gray. “It doesn’t matter what your experience level is, some of our cast members have performed professionally and others had never stepped foot on a stage before, we believe theatre is for everyone and welcome all new cast members with open arms.”
HMS Pinafore – also known as The Lass Who Loved a Sailor is a hilarious tale of love, honour and duty. The opera is one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s best known comedic operas, full of the usual twists and turns. The show is a pop culture juggernaut and has been referenced and parodied by everyone from The Simpsons and Family Guy to Chariots of Fire and The West Wing.
The plot focuses on love between members of different social classes and satirises the ridiculousness of the British class system.
