More rural towns and villages across North East Scotland are set to benefit from ultra-reliable, lightning-fast full-fibre broadband as independent provider GoFibre continues its rollout across Angus, Perth & Kinross and Aberdeenshire.
Following the first homes and businesses being connected in Edzell, Inverbervie and Longforgan, the next areas ready for service will include Montrose, Dunkeld, Bankfoot, Newtonhill, Portlethen, Alyth and Coupar Angus. The network will offer speeds of up to 1Gbps, supporting smoother remote working, buffer-free streaming and a better digital experience for local businesses and their customers.
The build is part of a major government contract aimed at improving connectivity in underserved areas. In 2025, GoFibre was chosen to deliver full-fibre broadband to around 63,000 hard-to-reach premises across North East Scotland as part of the wider Project Gigabit programme, which is designed to bring gigabit-capable broadband to rural and hard-to-reach communities.
GoFibre said the rollout will also bring wider economic benefits, with 30 direct construction roles created and up to 180 jobs supported over the lifetime of the project, including subcontracted work. The company added that it will also expand its network on a commercial basis, without public subsidy, increasing its full-fibre footprint to at least 100,000 premises across the North East.
