The Haven, a local charity based in Aberdeenshire is celebrating the success of a vital project after receiving funding from Scottish Independent broadband provider, GoFibre.

As part of its ongoing commitment to making a positive impact in the communities it serves, GoFibre has recently checked back in with the charity who has received funding through the GoFurther Fund to see the benefit the money has made.

Nearly six months on from the initial award, The Haven have used the financial boost to bring in additional staffing support for their mother and baby group, enabling group leaders to spend more one-to-one time with local mums, increasing the quality and personal touch of the service. The group, supported by GoFibre, has offered physical support from a pelvic floor expert, brought the generations together in a trip to a nursing home, and is looking at creating an ‘alumni’ group for mums who return to work.

Prior to the funding being awarded, the specialists providing care for local mums were also tasked with looking after the planning and admin so the additional of this new role not only helps group leaders to better tailor to the needs and wellbeing of the attendees but it also supports a new job in the community.

Operating from Stonehaven, The Haven is the latest Aberdeenshire charity to benefit from the GoFibre GoFurther Fund. The charity takes on social isolation by offering a wide range of free activities that bring local people together, helping to provide early intervention and prevention of mental health issues.

Starkeeper Morton, CEO at The Haven, said: “I would like to express our thanks to GoFibre for their incredible funding support. The contribution from the GoFurther Fund has empowered us to enhance our mother and baby support group which provides a supportive and safe space for our service users. Thanks to GoFibre, we can now offer more varied activities and essential services, hopefully making a small difference in the lives of the new mums we serve, through a successful 2024 and ahead into 2025.”

Neil Conaghan, Chief Executive Officer at GoFibre, commented: “We know that charities such as The Haven that are all about bringing people together, are the beating heart of the communities that they serve; that’s why we set up the GoFurther Fund. This is true all year round but especially at Christmas, when many people feel loneliness and isolation more sharply.

“For GoFibre, we are all about connecting communities in as many ways as possible, building long standing relationships in communities, alongside contributing much needed funding where we can.

“We are proud of the lasting impact our network makes and it’s been great to check back in with the GoFurther Fund charities to hear how the funding has helped. We’re proud to even be a small part of their journey in making a difference.”

GoFibre now has more than 118,000 homes and businesses ready-for-service across more than 30 local areas.
