GoFibre further invests in Aberdeenshire’s digital future with Full Fibre Broadband expansion

23/08/2023

EVEN MORE residents and businesses across towns and villages in Aberdeenshire are set to benefit from future-proof digital connectivity as a new full fibre broadband network expands across the area to more than 6,000 premises.

The construction of the network, provided by Scottish independent broadband builder and provider GoFibre is set to expand further with construction getting underway in Laurencekirk, which, when complete, will be able to connect approximately 1,600 more local residents and businesses to the power of full fibre.

Currently, more than 4,500 premises across Portlethen, Newtonhill and Stonehaven are already able to sign up and instantly benefit from better connectivity speeds and overall reliability.

GoFibre’s network expansion in the area began last November and this next rollout phase is on track to be completed in early 2024 as part of plans to grow its broadband network to reach almost 120,000 premises across Scotland and the North of England.

Lightning-fast and fit for the future, gigabit-capable broadband networks allow communities to upload and download data with none of the disruptions associated with ageing copper networks. More than 74 per cent of the UK can access gigabit connections – such as full fibre – but these are most common in urban areas. GoFibre is, therefore, continuing to bridge this divide, providing world-class digital connectivity to rural and harder to reach locations.

Once in place, Aberdeenshire residents and businesses will have access to up to 10Gbps speeds, which significantly enhances their ability to work effectively from home, improves business productivity, and ensures households can use as many gadgets as they want to their hearts’ content.

Neil Conaghan, Chief Executive Officer, GoFibre said: “We are excited to share the news that our full fibre broadband network is now being rolled out in Laurencekirk, following remarkable progress and uptake across Portlethen, Newtonhill and Stonehaven.

“This expansion marks a significant milestone in our efforts to bridge the digital divide in rural areas with our network already bringing remarkable speed improvements to residents and businesses, transforming their connectivity experience.

“If you are a local resident or business owner interested in learning more about the advantages our network can offer, please get in touch to register your interest. We would like to thank everyone for their ongoing patience and support as we work to connect them to the benefits of full fibre technology”.

Aberdeenshire Council’s Digital Engagement Team commented: “Aberdeenshire Council is thrilled to see construction work start in Laurencekirk in order to bring full fibre to so many additional properties. It’s essential in today’s digital world that as many residents as possible can access faster broadband speeds. We encourage any resident who needs further advice or support to contact us.”
