MENTAL Health Aberdeen (MHA) are holding the North East’s first black-tie fundraising dinner, MHAsterminds, dedicated solely to raising money and awareness for mental health support services. The dinner come quiz night is taking place at The Chester Hotel on Friday 7th October, and over 300 guests are expected to attend.

This is the largest event that MHA has ever organised and should have taken place in 2020 to celebrate their 70th birthday. Despite the two-year delay, the charity has been overwhelmed by the incredible support the inaugural event has received, with businesses and individuals from across the North East rushing to secure their place.

CNR International is the main sponsor of the dinner, to help mark the fact that they have been funding service provision within MHA for 20 years. CNR International has donated significant funds  to MHA during this period, ensuring that critical services could continue despite the many challenging times the charity and local economy has faced. The company has also provided practical support and business advice to MHA during their 20- year partnership.

Astrid Whyte, former Chief Executive of MHA, was key to building this relationship with CNR International, and said: “I will never forget their first donation. It came at a particularly challenging time for MHA financially, and was the best gift to get. Since then, the annual donation from CNR International now goes towards the training of new counsellors, ensuring that we can help even more people because of our partnership. I will be eternally grateful for the support they have given us across the past 20 years.”

Graeme Kinghorn, Chief Executive of MHA, added “On behalf of the charity, I would like to thank CNR International for the incredible support they continue to show MHA, and for helping us to ensure this event will raise as much money as possible. We can’t think of a better way to mark our 20-year relationship, than having them as the partner for own 70th birthday celebrations.”

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all of the businesses and individuals who have booked their table for our dinner. We have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure you have a great night, and can’t wait to welcome you all to The Chester on the 7th October.”

Barry Duncan, Managing Director of CNR International said: “We are extremely proud of our long-term relationship with MHA, which kicked off in 2002. The relationship is mutually beneficial with MHA supporting CNR International develop and implement an employee mental health awareness program. Building and maintaining a strong and long-lasting relationship with the charities we support is very important to CNR International and we look forward to working with MHA for many years to come.”

Guests attending the event will have the chance to find out more about the work that MHA have been doing in the community, their future plans, and why the money raised on the night will help them to offer free counselling to even more people.

Guests will then compete in teams of ten, in ten rounds of challenging yet fun questions, for people with all levels and types of knowledge. There will be many chances to win across the night, as well as prizes for the teams who come first, second and third.
