This Halloween, Banff Castle will be transformed into a place of wonder and mystery, alive with light, stories and family fun. Shocktober! is not a Halloween gore-fest but an evening that harks back to magic, mystery and ages gone by.
The Castle and grounds will be seen in a different light, creating an atmosphere unlike any other night of the year. As projections ripple over the Castle’s outer walls and mist lingers on the lawns, families will be able to explore stalls, sample food and drink, gather around a fire pit and take in the warmth of the Castle Garden Café, open into the evening.
For the daring and the adventurous there will be immersive experiences inside the Castle itself. The familiar spaces will feel changed, as if something lingers in the air – a whisper half-heard, a presence half-seen. Families will be drawn into moments where silence seems to carry a sound of its own, where imagination sharpens and the boundary between what is and what might be begins to blur.
Banff Castle Community Association Chair John Cox said: “Banff Castle is set in stunning grounds that are a treasured local amenity, enjoyed by hundreds of people every week. The grounds are cared for by the Castle itself, thanks to the dedication of our volunteers who put in an enormous amount of work throughout the year to keep them looking their best.
“Shocktober will allow the community to experience the Castle and grounds in a different light, as well as supporting the fundraising that helps us maintain the Castle as a vital community asset. Just as importantly, we want events like this to attract visitors into Banff and the wider area, bringing benefits to local businesses as well as the Castle.”
