Aberdeen’s local lifeboat station is on the hunt for volunteers to support its lifesaving operations in Aberdeen. With positions on the operations and fundraising committees, the station hopes to breathe some life into the historic institution locally, which this year celebrates its 200th anniversary.

The Aberdeen branch is seeking individuals for the positions of Branch Collection Organiser, Branch Fundraising Member, Fundraising Branch Chair, Fundraising Events Coordinator and Social Media Officer. These roles are crucial in supporting the RNLI’s mission to save lives at sea in the Aberdeen area.

Donald Montgomery, current Chair of Aberdeen RNLI Fundraising committee, said: “Volunteering with the RNLI offers a rewarding opportunity to make a significant impact in the local community. Volunteers will engage in organising fundraising events, managing collections, coordinating social media activities, and leading the fundraising branch. These roles require enthusiasm, commitment, and a passion for supporting the lifeboat crews who work tirelessly to ensure safety at sea.

“Our volunteers are the backbone of our operations. Their dedication ensures we can continue our lifesaving work and maintain our essential services. I’m sad to be stepping away from my role following nine years as Chair of the Fundraising Committee, and 12 years as a community presenter, but now is the right time for me to let someone else to make their mark.”

Aberdeen RNLI has a long history of service, with volunteers providing a 24-hour search and rescue service along the UK and Ireland coasts. The charity operates independently of the Coastguard and government, relying on voluntary donations and legacies to sustain its operations.
