A cannabis farm has been uncovered inside the former Pearl Lounge nightclub in Aberdeen’s city centre, with four men arrested following a police raid last week. The incident has raised concerns about organised crime’s use of abandoned venues, as well as the social impact on the local community.
Police Scotland officers raided the now-defunct Pearl Lounge nightclub last week, where they discovered a large-scale cannabis cultivation operation. The raid took place after reports of suspicious activity in the area, with law enforcement seizing equipment and arresting four men in connection with the illicit farm.
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed:
“Police discover cannabis farm in raid on former Pearl Lounge nightclub in Aberdeen”. The raid resulted in the arrest of four men, all of whom are expected to appear in court as investigations continue.
Detective Constable Nicholas Bowyer stated: “These arrests underline our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country’s Serious Organised Crime Strategy. Taking drugs off the street is a priority for Police Scotland. Anybody with any information or concerns about drugs within their community should contact Police via 101 where we can then investigate.”
In a statement issued after the discovery, another police spokesperson noted: “Drugs cause misery in our communities and we are committed to removing them from our streets”.
