Hundreds take to the streets for annual Maggie’s Aberdeen Culture Crawl

THE Granite City’s streets were turned into a sea of orange as hundreds of fundraisers indulged in an evening of culture to raise money for one of Aberdeen’s leading cancer support charities.

The annual Maggie’s Aberdeen Culture Crawl, which kicked-off at Duthie Park, led participants on a tour of the city’s cultural hotspots including the Deemouth Artist Studios, the Hollywood-style Aberdeen sign at the Castelgate, Pittodrie and Citymoves Dance Studio.

Since launching in 2017, the event has raised more than £400,000 for the charity, which is marking 10 years since its centre opened in the grounds of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. And organisers are hoping the generous donations continue to roll in as Maggie’s celebrates its special anniversary.

Maggie’s Aberdeen Head of Fundraising Richard Stewart said: “We are incredibly – and increasingly – grateful to everyone who has given up their time and donated their hard-earned money to help the centre. We are not living in the easiest of financial climates, so we are more grateful than ever for the help we receive.

“We are regularly astounded by the generosity of everyone who helps the centre, and certainly do not take anything for granted.

“It was a brilliant evening, one full of smiles, laughter and sunshine, as well as some tears. One in two of us will develop cancer at some point in our lives, and it is on occasions like Culture Crawl that we are able to appreciate how fortunate we are to have the support of family and friends.

“At the Aberdeen centre we have been honoured to host more than 72,000 visits since we opened, and it is only through people and companies supporting events like this that we are able to do that.

“Thank you to everyone who contributed to making such the evening a great success both this year and in previous years.”

With Friday’s successful Culture Crawl in the can, the team’s focus has now turned to finalising plans for the special 10th anniversary birthday ball at the Chester Hotel in September.

Guests have been urged to sport a splash of orange to celebrate a decade of the charity, with tables being snapped up quickly.

Tickets for the event on Saturday, September 9, which is sponsored by Safe Building Services, can be purchased by emailing [email protected] or calling 01224 612914.
