Hurricane Energy has announced the death of its chief operations officer (COO), Neil Platt.

The North Sea exploration and production firm’s chairman, Steven McTiernan, said he was “deeply saddened” to learn of the death of Mr Platt, who died yesterday.

Mr Platt served  on the board of directors at Hurricane Energy and had been the firm’s COO since 2013.

Hurricane’s board of directors extended its “deepest condolences and sympathies” to Mr Platt’s family, adding that the firm were “eternally grateful for the exceptional role he played in the development of the company”.

Mr McTiernan, added:“Everyone at Hurricane is deeply saddened by this news and our thoughts and sympathies are with Neil’s family and friends.

“Neil’s passion, enthusiasm and technical excellence were integral to the Company’s growth over the past decade.

“His leadership was pivotal to the successful delivery and operation of the Lancaster Early Production System.

“This outstanding achievement is a fitting legacy for his career at Hurricane and will always remind us of his huge contribution.

“We will miss him terribly.”

Steve Holmes, production operations director, has been appointed acting COO.
