The Igbo Cultural Association SCIO proudly hosted its 12th Annual Iwaji Festival this past Saturday, celebrating Igbo heritage, culture, and community spirit in Aberdeen. The festival attracted members of the community, friends, and supporters who joined together for a day of music, dance, food, and cultural exhibitions.

The Iwaji Festival, now in its twelfth year, is a highlight of the community calendar, providing a platform for members to showcase traditional performances, culinary delights, and cultural education for all ages. Attendees had the opportunity to enjoy live music, traditional dances, storytelling, and interactive activities that celebrated the rich Igbo culture.

Guests shared their appreciation for the festival:
“Absolutely loved the energy and spirit of the festival! Can’t wait for next year,” said Idara., a festival attendee.

“The food, music, and performances were amazing – truly a celebration of our heritage!” commented Bukola.

Chairman Edward Obi emphasized the importance of the festival in maintaining and promoting Igbo traditions in Scotland:
“The Iwaji Festival is more than a celebration; it’s an opportunity for us to bring our community together, preserve our cultural heritage, and inspire future generations.”

The event also provided a platform for young members to participate in cultural activities, including performances, storytelling, and educational workshops, reinforcing the Association’s commitment to youth engagement and cultural preservation.

The Igbo Cultural Association SCIO thanks all members, volunteers, and sponsors who made the festival a success and invites the wider community to join in next year’s celebration.
